Folder Bonn Convention

The Convention is an intergovernmental treaty that aims to conserve migratory species in their total migratory range. It is commonly referred to as the Bonn Convention after the city where it was concluded. The Bonn Convention was concluded in 1979 and came into force in 1983. Today more than 85 countries have ratified the convention. Denmark ratified the Convention already in 1982. The Bonn Convention provides a framework within which parties may act to conserve migratory species and their habitat by adopting strict protection regimes for migratory species that have been categorized as endangered. The Convention encourages the conclusion of Agreements for the conservation and management og migratory species that have an unfavourable conservation status or would benefit significantly from international cooperation.
