Ireland and Sweden: Green light for innovative rural development programmes

5 July 2001: The European Commission approved the programmes for the EU Initiative Leader+ in Ireland and in Sweden. Commenting on the decisions, Franz Fischler, Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, said: "The Leader+ programme aims to pilot with new ideas to improve the quality of life on the countryside. Leader+ will help to enhance the natural and cultural heritage and to reinforce the economic environment in order to contribute to job creation."
