Story International Biodiversity day

May 22th is International Day of Biodiversity. This year highlights biodiversity in relation to agriculture. Different events took place around the world to emphasize the importance of slowing down the loss of biodiversity and also the value of agricultural biodiversity.

Denmark
marked the International Biodiversity Day among other things with the visit of the Environment Minister to a school, where a new book on biodiversity was launced


Co-operation among the Nordic countries also has a high priority in the work on slowing down the loss of biodiversity by 2010. The project Nordic nature trends towards 2010 describes the trends in Nordic biodiversity. The result of the project is also promoted through the homepage of the Danish Agency for environment and spatial planing through dedicated fact sheets. Denmark is among other initiatives working with nature restoration in the ongoing efforts to reach the 2010- goal on slowing down the loss of biodiversity. Denmark has an active policy in the area of nature restoration. An important condition for nature restoration in Denmark has been the public and political support, which again has provided the legislation and funding needed for the implementation of a number of restoration projects, which have reestablished more than 40.000 ha nature during the last two decades.
